LCME Accreditation

On February 25, 2020, Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine received LCME reaccreditation.

The school has been granted eight years of accreditation, which is the maximum amount of time awarded by the LCME (Liaison Committee on 医疗 教育).

The LCME is the organization that accredits medical education programs that lead to the M.D. degree in the United States and Canada. LCME accreditation is important to OUWB as it allows our students to be eligible to take the USMLE (United States 医疗 Licensing Examination) exams and apply for residency through the Accreditation Council of Graduate 医疗 教育 (ACGME). LCME accreditation also provides medical schools eligibility for select federal grants. The LCME currently has a set of 12 accreditation standards, each with a set of supporting required elements. OUWB last prepared our formal documentation towards these standards and participated in a LCME site visit in the Fall of 2019. OUWB’s self-study task force and subcommittees prepared for the visit by thoroughly examining our medical school education program and identifying our strategic resources, strengths and areas for improvement. An important document called a Data Collection Instrument, 或DCI, helped the LCME with its review of our school.  In February 2020, OUWB was granted full reaccreditation for the maximum eight-year term. Although OUWB received full reaccreditation there were a handful of elements that required additional follow-up and/or continuous monitoring. This has required several status report submissions to the LCME. 目前, OUWB is preparing a follow-up report including additional monitoring and detailed student survey information pertaining to the following four elements:

  • 5.4 Sufficiency of Buildings and Equipment
  • 8.5 医疗 Student Feedback
  • 8.8 Monitoring Student Time
  • 12.1 Financial 援助/Debt Management Counseling/Student 教育al Debt
